No, it wasn’t a new board. Or boots. Or some top secret “pop-enhancing” core construction that costs more than a flight to Japan.
It was filming myself.
That’s it. Nothing fancy—just a phone balanced on a glove, or a friend grabbing a shaky clip while waiting at the bottom. And yeah, watching it back was rough. Turns that felt aggressive looked like I was leaning against the bar after a heavy night. My “tight tree line” looked like I was lost.
Bummer.
But here’s the thing: it helped. A lot.
I could see where I was dropping my uphill arm. I could spot weird edge habits I didn’t know I had. And it made me ride more deliberately the next lap—not to impress anyone, but to fix the thing I just watched.
You don’t need a GoPro or a fancy drone (no sneaky affiliate links here). Just grab a quick clip now and then. Turns out your phone knows more about your riding than your memory does.
📝 TL;DR
Think you’re riding well? Film yourself. It’s brutal. But it works.
