Why We're Ditching The Next Snow Season
Ever since we became snowboard addicts, we've pretty much gone on snowboarding holidays twice a year - chasing the winter from the north to the south and back again.
Snow has already started to fall in the northern hemisphere. Pictures of the snow are teasing us everywhere on Instagram and Facebook. It feels like half of Australia has booked a skiing or snowboarding holiday to Japan. But we'll be missing out this year.
Why?
Don't worry, we haven't given up snowboarding! It's because we've decided to spend a year or two in Queenstown, New Zealand. It's a place that we keep getting drawn back to. In fact, out of the last 8 years, we have been there for 7 winters. That's how much we love it. We love Queenstown so much, we even got married there.
But the truth is, aside from the ski resorts, we haven't really seen a thing. We fly in, we snowboard and we fly back out again. We haven't even seen the regular touristy stuff! It's really hard to immerse yourself in local culture and explore a place when you are only there for a short time. We loved the 5 months that we recently spent in Frisco, Colorado because it gave us time to truly see what the place was all about.
Queenstown is known as an adventure town with access to just about every outdoor activity you can think of. It has our name written all over it! We were in Queenstown last week and it really reinforced our decision to head over there. Spring was in the air and we could see that summer (and autumn and spring) would be just as much fun as winter. We met so many great people from all walks of life who also love the things that we love. There was a real active, healthy, outdoors, give it a go vibe that was just impossible to ignore. We can't wait to experience it first hand next year.
So yes, we'll be missing out on JaPow early next year, but we're totally ok with that.
We'll be heading over to Queenstown mid-February next year! Do you have any tips for us? Let us know in the comments below or send us an email! (Make sure you click on 'subscribe via e-mail' to be notified when we write back).
