1. Comfort and Fit
Comfort is the first thing that usually kills helmet headphones for me. Even decent sounding units can end up creating hot spots after a couple of hours, especially if the speaker housing is thick or doesn’t sit flat in the ear pad.

At normal skiing and riding speeds, audio is clean and easy to hear. Music does not feel muddy and spoken audio like podcasts comes through clearly. Once speeds pick up, you do lose some detail, but that is true of almost every helmet speaker. What impressed me is that the sound does not completely disappear the moment you point downhill.
Bass is present but controlled. These are not bass heavy and that is probably a good thing in a helmet environment. You are not getting chest thumping low end, but you are getting balanced sound that works in motion.
If you are an audiophile, these will not convert you (though I suspect no helmet headphone will). If you want reliable sound while riding without cranking volume to unsafe levels, they do the job.
3. Controls and Ease of Use
This is one of the strongest parts of the MZ04.
The buttons are large and easy to find with gloves on. Even with thick mitts, I had no issue pausing music, skipping tracks, or adjusting volume. You do not need to fumble or take a glove off, which is exactly how helmet controls should work.
The buttons are a bit softer than some premium options, so you don’t always get a sharp click feel, but functionally they work. I never had accidental presses while riding and after a few uses, muscle memory kicks in.
If you value simple, glove friendly controls over fancy touch interfaces, this setup makes sense.
4. Battery Life
Battery life has been solid and predictable.
In normal resort use, the MZ04 easily last a full day. I have used them from first chair to late afternoon without worrying about running out of power. Cold temperatures did not seem to cause sudden drops or unexpected shutdowns, though probably reduced overall lifespan.
The charging case is well designed and easy to use. Drop the speakers in, close the lid and they start charging. No fiddling, no alignment issues. It is the kind of thing you don’t notice until you use a system where charging is annoying.
For most riders, battery life will not be something you think about, which is exactly how it should be.
5. Calls, Mic and Connectivity
I don’t take a lot of calls on the mountain, but when I did, the MZ04 performed better than expected.
The mic is clear enough for quick calls on the lift. Wind noise is present if you are moving fast, but unless you are absolutely hammering it, conversations are understandable. I wouldn’t use these for long calls while riding, but for quick check ins, they work.
Bluetooth connection has been stable. No random dropouts, no cutting in and out mid run and no issues reconnecting after breaks.
Once paired, they just stay connected.

Who These Are Actually For
The MZ04 make the most sense for riders who want something simple and reliable.
If you want helmet headphones that are comfortable, easy to use with gloves and loud enough for real riding speeds, these check those boxes. They are especially good if you ride full days and don’t want to think about battery life or fiddly controls.
