Escape Quest - An Indoor Queenstown Attraction
Queenstown is the adventure capital of the world so why would you spend any time indoors when you come to visit? There’s no denying we’re an outdoors bunch here at The Snow Chasers but you’d be doing yourself an injustice if you don’t explore some of the indoor activities in Queenstown. We did our first indoor adventure activity the other day at Escape Quest Queenstown and came away wanting more.
Adventure activities are so much more rewarding if they’re hands-on and you really get your teeth into it at Escape Quest. The premise is that you’re locked in a room for a max of 60 minutes and you’re given clues to solve a crime to aid your escape. An hour sounds like a long time but you’d be surprised how quickly time flies when you’re racking your brain for the next clue.
Period based on the Queenstown Gold Rush era, Escape Quest takes you back in time both in the fit-out of the escape rooms and costumes. It’s definitely a lot of fun imagining stepping back in time and trying to solve a crime.
Jen and I did the entry level room and it took us 59min and 25sec to escape! And that was with quite a few hints along the way. I think the record for 2 people to escape is something like 40 mins so we need a bit more practice… The hints are displayed on a TV screen only when you need some extra help getting to the next step. Clues are scattered around the room and you need to solve one mystery before moving onto the next, with the ultimate goal of unlocking the door to ‘escape’. With some clues more cryptic than others, the extra hints are very welcome when no amount of head scratching gets you to the next step.
Now we have a taste for it, we believe we’d be better escapists next time around (maybe wishful thinking!) so we’re already planning our next visit. There are another two levels, which become increasingly more difficult, so it’s really going to test our cognitive functions!
If you’re just a little bit competitive, like problem-solving and want to have a lot of fun, you should give it a try. And don't worry if you think you're not clever enough or you wouldn't get it - we all have different skills sets and points of view, and you'd be amazed how they all help in cracking the clues! Compete with your friends in other quest rooms or get them to join you to help solve the mystery quicker - either way, it’s a pretty cool activity.
So next time it’s a cloudy-down day or you’ve worn yourself out from all the outdoor activities or want some evening entertainment, try out your deductive skills at Escape Quest Queenstown. It makes for a great group activity that will have you talking well into the evening about how much better you’ll be next time around!
We plan on doing some more indoor activities in Queenstown over the coming months so stay tuned for our reports. It’s no secret we’re loving our time here and it seems every day we find something else really cool to do - when it’s cool we’ll write about it.
Have you done Escape Quest Queenstown or perhaps another real life escape room elsewhere? Or any other indoor activities in Queenstown that you rate? If so, please let us know below.
